Can anyone sign up as a volunteer?
Yes. Anyone can create a volunteer profile and browse opportunities. Individual events may still have age, skill, background-check, or accessibility requirements set by the hosting organization.
Can I be a volunteer and an organization at the same time?
Yes. You can volunteer personally and also help manage an organization account. Your volunteer activity and your organization's admin tools are kept separate so your hours, Karma, and event management stay clear.
How do I earn Karma points?
You earn Karma when you attend a volunteer shift and the hosting organization verifies your attendance. Karma is based on verified contribution, not just signing up.
How do I use my Karma points?
Available Karma can be redeemed with participating local businesses for eligible perks such as discounts, free items, services, classes, or community experiences. Your Lifetime Karma remains as your permanent contribution record.
Do Karma points expire?
Your Lifetime Karma does not expire. Available Karma may be subject to program rules in the future, but your verified community contribution record remains durable.
How is attendance verified?
Organizations verify attendance through check-in, QR/code scans, and organizer review. Karma is awarded after the attendance record is confirmed.
There are no volunteer opportunities in my area. What do I do?
You can still create a profile and expand your search radius. You can also invite local nonprofits, schools, community groups, or city programs to list opportunities on Social Exchange.
Will organizations see my private information?
Organizations see the information needed to manage their events, such as your signup, shift status, and attendance. Social Exchange does not sell your volunteer profile or activity history.
